Defrag Stuck at 1% No Matter How Many Time I Run It

Defrag is stuck at one percent even though I have ran it a dozen times completely, this was the case with my system reserve partition too a while ago it was stuck at 14%, now my system reserve partition when it is defraged returns to 0% but my system partition is stuck at 1% no matter how many times I run defrag it seems can that be solved anyhow?

Neither the Auslogics or Microsoft Disk Defragmenters defragment the pagefile. If you allow Windows to manage the pagefile and the free disk space is less than 50% of the volume in which the pagefile resides, the pagefile fragments.

The way to avoid this problem is to place the pagefile in it's own partition or to have a fixed minimum = maximum pagefile created before the free disk space reduces below 50%.

Whther the Auslogics solution always works is questionable.  To recreate the pagefile you have to restart the computer. The shutdown causes entries to be written to files so that if there was already limited free disk space these entries start the fragmentation process once again. The new pagefile is created early in the boot process but the files and free disk space have already started to fragment. The Auslogics solution will certainly improve the situation but less so if the free disk space is say only 20% of the drive.

    No I don't understand I have the option to defrag the system reserve partition I don't usually defrag that partition, and that is not the concern right now it was a question in the past because what happend to that when I ran defrag is what happens the primary partition right now.

    The concern is that if I run defrag when analyze says that there is a percentage fragmented that partition should return back to 0% after defrag is ran.

    In this case it does not so that I consider an error unless otherwise explained.

    It is often difficult to get to a no fragmented files result if you are using the "Let Window Manage" as your pagefile setting. The pagefile fragments and fragments the free space and many / most disk defragmenters do not remedy this problem. The solution is to use a fixed pagefile, which you need to create before the disk fills up.

    Another problem can be "files in use". Using a fixed pagefile I can get to 4/5 fragmented files using the method described in my earlier post. The files remaining fragmented are mainly from my anti-virus. Restarting the computer and running Defraggler a usually results second time in a no fragmented files result. Technically this reported result is incorrect as the MFT files is not reported but it is normally in 2 or 3 fragments.

     However, I would not be overconcerned if I got a 1% result.

    The only way to totally defragment each and every file on the Windows partition is to have a Dual Boot system where you use one version of Windows to defrag the other Windows partition (which not currently in use) OR boot from a CD/DVD and use some type of third part ultility as the utility operates totally in memory and no files are locked or in use on the Windows partition.
