Defrag Stuck at 1% No Matter How Many Time I Run It

Defrag is stuck at one percent even though I have ran it a dozen times completely, this was the case with my system reserve partition too a while ago it was stuck at 14%, now my system reserve partition when it is defraged returns to 0% but my system partition is stuck at 1% no matter how many times I run defrag it seems can that be solved anyhow?

Neither the Auslogics or Microsoft Disk Defragmenters defragment the pagefile. If you allow Windows to manage the pagefile and the free disk space is less than 50% of the volume in which the pagefile resides, the pagefile fragments.

The way to avoid this problem is to place the pagefile in it's own partition or to have a fixed minimum = maximum pagefile created before the free disk space reduces below 50%.

Whther the Auslogics solution always works is questionable.  To recreate the pagefile you have to restart the computer. The shutdown causes entries to be written to files so that if there was already limited free disk space these entries start the fragmentation process once again. The new pagefile is created early in the boot process but the files and free disk space have already started to fragment. The Auslogics solution will certainly improve the situation but less so if the free disk space is say only 20% of the drive.

    It has nothing to do with the amount that it is saying isn't defragmented I don't think that number means anything at all for, example I might reinstall Windows again which I'm not going to do anytime soon and it might say 17% fragmented files and never go below that because something is wrong with that output not the actual file defragmentation.

    After checking 5 hard drives and more than 25 partitions using Windows 7's Defrag's "status only" (no defragmentation action was initiated) they all reported 0% fragmentation. Some of these drives and partitions I knew full well could not possibly be totally defragmented.

    So I installed a trial version of Perfect Defrag and ran this utility in 'Analysys' mode only. As suspected Perfect Disk did show one partition at 1.2% framentation and not 0% (all other partitions Perfect Disk reported 0% the same as Wndows Defrag). This particular 1.2% partition is the Windows XP partition of my multi-boot computer. There were dozens of fragmented files, some files had 10 or more fragments. Even the partitions that Perfect Disk reported as 0% also had a few fragmented files.

    I'm am not suggesting you use Perfect Disk to defragment your drive, simply use it's analysis mode to reveal which files are fragmented. It might shed some light as to why your stuck at 1%.

    Is this a Windows bug? I cant say, as I do not have direct access to your hard drive. But I suspect that both Perfect Disk and Windows Defrag use some type of algorithm to determine what constitues the % value displayed. I could well be than one of your fragemented files can not be fully defragemented by Windows for whatever reason and is the cause of the 1% factor. Perfect Disk may help you determine which file this is.

    Windows Defrag is supposed to defrag all of the files on my hard drive or at least until the software itself says 0% fragmented files but after running Windows Defrag a dozen times it still says 1% fragmented, and after running anylize.

    What is the status of this problem? As far as I know I am the only person that is bothered by this problem, there really isn't very much results on this if I run a search myself.
