MTP USB device failed to install on Windows 7

Originally, (beginning of December 2010) my Canon Powershot camera (SX110IS attached beautifully.  Now it gives the failed to install message whenever I attach it.

"Device driver software was not successfully installed"

"MTP USB Device Failed.

Please help.

Hi,

Method 1:

Disconnect all the external devices (printers, scanner, USB (Universal Serial Bus) drives, etc...)Except mouse and the keyboard and then boot up.

If this corrects the issue then add the devices back one at a time until you discover the piece of hardware causing the issue. Then get any updated drivers\software for the device.

Method 2:

If you still come across the issue, I suggest you to run Hardware Troubleshooter and then check for the issue.

a)     Open the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter by clicking the Start button and then clicking Control Panel.

b)     In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under Hardware and Sound, click Configure a device.‌

c)       If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Method 3:

If the above step does not help us to diagnose the issue, uninstall the drivers for USB [Universal Serial bus] host controller and restart the computer. Let Windows install the generic drivers and then see if it helps you to fix the issue.

a)     Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, then Device Manager in the search box.‌

b)     If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

c)      Look for the device under USB [Universal Serial bus] host controller, right click on it and select Uninstall.

d)     Reboot the computer.

e)     On reboot, Windows 7 should re-install the drivers automatically.

Method 4:

If the above methods don’t work you can try to reinstall the drivers for your Canon Camera. To do so refer the link provided below:

    I had tried tons of proposed solution and it seem doesn't work for my Samsung Note 3. However i finally solve without installing/uninstalling anything.

    Problem Solved as following;

    1. Reboot your phone to Recovery.
    2. Wipe Cache Partition.
    3. Restart phone and connect to PC.

    Bum!!! Window successfully installed your MTP driver.

    Finally!! someone knows what he is talking about

    Spent 2 days now trawling through all these suggestions. Still I have a Nokia 620 running WINDOWS Phone 8.1 still not connecting to a laptop running WINDOWS 7.

    There appears to be a common factor here, I just can't quite see what it is :(

    Here is what i've done dude and it works absolutely fine now. After searching on Google for hours i found this solution. I wanted to help people who got this problem also.

    1 Reboot into Download or Recovery mode. (Turn off phone. Press power, home and down volume buttons at the same time. Then press up. Tested on Samsung Galaxy S3).

    2 Connect your phone to your computer. You may hear a sound that the device was connected. Nothing will pop up though on Windows.

    3 If step 2 didn't work, try reinstalling Samsung device drivers. Once that is done(which was my case), connect it again. You should hear the sound of a device connected.

    1. Disconnect device and reboot/remove battery(remove the battery, don't worry, nothing will happen to your phone) and boot up. (Do not connect to PC yet).

    5 Once your device is booted up, connect it to PC again. Windows should now pick up it. The next step is Windows will then download and install the MTP and Android drivers which for me was 10 min.

    Now it should be working great. No need to go into Registry Editor, cmd, adb .... etc, whatever. Just do this and it will works. Tested on S3
