Windows 7 windows update broken after disk clone

I used EASEUS Diskcopy to clone a harddisk (new disk 750 GB) and now windows update does not work. Any suggestions?

    The issue is the change in block size. Old drives utilize 512 byte blocks and newer one 4 kilobyte blocks. It might be impossible to clone this way. I think I'll contact Acronis and ask them.

    Precisely. I'd still suggest that if the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver is present that you try updating it. The Hotfix may be resolving the byte issue on the Hard Drive but the IRSTD may need updating, too.

    I have exactly the same problem: Windows Update is not working and I cannot apply KB982018 to fix it.

    In my case I have restored a broken SSD-drive using my Windows Home Server backup. Because I have to wait until I get a replacement SSD I restored the image to a normal HDD. Now the Windows Update component is not working anymore.

    When I install the Hotfix KB982018 on my 64bit AMD system I get an error message with error 0xc8000222. Somehow the hotfix that shall fix the Windows Update system relies on an intact Windows Update system.

    Instructions how to get or extract the updated DLLs and how to install them manually - without Windows Update - would be greatly appreciated.

    Inthis thread someone seems to have managed to fix the problem. But there is not enough information to say that we have a solution.

    Here's the Hotfix referred to in the thread -

    Your issue may or not be related to the issue in this thread as your system has an AMD processor whereas others in this thread have Intel processors, you neglected to mention the size of the HD, and you do not mention if cloning was involved.

    You would be better served by starting a new thread and including the last 50 or so lines of the WindowsUpdate.log in your post after another attempt at updating -How to read the Windowsupdate.log file
