Windows 7 windows update broken after disk clone

I used EASEUS Diskcopy to clone a harddisk (new disk 750 GB) and now windows update does not work. Any suggestions?

    Sorry, I got the window update log from old HDD... Here is the error from the 750GB HDD.

    My esent.dll version is 6.1.7601.17514

    You can extract the .msu to obtain esent.dll if that is what is causing the Windows Defender and Windows Update service issues. However, since the clone of the HD has already been updated by the application of Windows 7 SP1, which updated esent.dll, then the Hotfix may not be applicable here.

    Please post the Version number of esent.dll, found in Windows\System32, and the last 50 or so lines of the WindowsUpdate.log, located in Windows, so we can see if this is an ESENT/JET database issue, HoYIU.

    Here's what the issue appears as in the WindowsUpdate.log

    I read all the information posted here because I got the same problem. But my case is a bit different from above.  Here is my problem:

    1. My notebook computer is Sony VGN-NW15G, HDD = 250GB.
    2. The system was Vista Home Premium when purchase.
    3. It was upgraded to Window 7 Home Premium after I received the DVD from Microsoft.
    4. I have downloaded and installed the Win7 SP1 recently
    5. Due to no space, I clone my old HDD to new one - 750GB HDD - Hitachi (5400rpm, 8Mb)
    6. The Window can startup and run normally in new HDD, except for Window Update and Window Defender.
    7. Reason for failed to updated is "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may have to restart your computer. "
    8. So I think the problem can be solved by using Hotfix KB982018 as stated in the suggestion of zowie_abc on 13-Jan-2011.
    9. However, when I use the old HDD to run the msu file obtained from hotfix KB982018 (I am sure I got the right hotfix for x86, as it was detected by hotfix download website), an error message pop up "This update is not suitable for your computer". Thus, I can't get the updated dll files...
    10. Do I need to run the msu file in another computer, not the old HDD one, but complete different computer? But I don't have it, what can I do?

    Struggling the same problem with my asus laptop and new AdvFormat WD hdd - win 7 x64 was restored from backup (done on old drive) and Update doesn't work (it gives 0xC8000222).

    When trying to install kb982018 hotfix  Update raises 0xC8000222 error and fails. Old drive crushed so I can't apply kb982018 on it.

    Latest Intel RST drivers installed, laptop has supported Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller.

    Could you please advise what should I do in this situation?
