Original Title: My wireless Optical mouse 2000 Scroll wheel works intermittently

I recently purchased a wireless desktop set that has a wireless optical mouse 2000, Wireless Keyboard 100 and a wireless desktop receiver 3.1 in the kit. After installing the drivers and Intellitype/point software the mouse wheel doesn't work all the time, for instance after clicking my way into an eighty plus page PDF manual or long webpage the wheel seems to not work in one direction, then the other direction won't work. I've tried new batteries, latest driver package from microsoft site (intellipoint 8.01) moving closer to the receiver or farther away to the point of "low mouse signal". Today however the mouse is 2-3 feet away from the receiver and it keeps popping up saying "the mouse sigal is low would you like to start the troubleshooter?" Yes i have tried this and tried switching the usb connection to no avail. Can Anyone HELP please.... Tired of Click and Drag

The same problem here, but I have found a way to make it work (actually there are two ways LOL)

- Remove one of the batteries. Believe it or not, the scroll wheel works perfectly when I remove one of the battery (doesn't matter which one). However, I don't know how long it will last since there is only one battery in operational.

- Remove the batter cover and take out the batteries. Use a screw driver to loose the screw about 2 turns (for some reason I believe it was screwed in too tight). Put the batteries back and you are or set.

I can not guarantee that my methods will always work, but the fact is it's working for me ever since.

Don't feel bad. I think i've had mine a few years now and just am now searching to see how to fix it. Weird thing was that I installed the windows 8 preview and it worked for a day but the left clicker was starting to go out. after reverting back to windows 7 today i decided to look it up and see if it was a driver issue, glad its just a screw but yes i too feel dumb and appreciate the scroller more now.

I have no idea of why it worked for a little while really well under windows 8 without the screw adjustment though.

I finally found out the dog-gone problem... The cover was pushing the wheel at a slight angle where the Sensor/camera wouldn't pick up the wheel scrolling. All i did was scrape the Very fine line from around the cutout for the wheel and bang it works now. Seems like someone at QC would have noticed this small imperfection, but I'm not condemming anyone after all we are only human. Humans make mistakes too.

I have tried ALL of these "tricks" tips and misc read me's on how to fix the thing and nothing I MEAN NOTHING Works to solve the problem. I've gone as far as taking the mouse apart and cleaning the wheel where the tiny camera/sensor (whatever it is) shoots through the slots thinking that there was and there was oil/grease from the roller pivot coating the thing. which didn't help any but i've quit caring any more, It is just one of those things that happens to the best of us. Thank you to all of you for your support and help.
