Original Title: My wireless Optical mouse 2000 Scroll wheel works intermittently

I recently purchased a wireless desktop set that has a wireless optical mouse 2000, Wireless Keyboard 100 and a wireless desktop receiver 3.1 in the kit. After installing the drivers and Intellitype/point software the mouse wheel doesn't work all the time, for instance after clicking my way into an eighty plus page PDF manual or long webpage the wheel seems to not work in one direction, then the other direction won't work. I've tried new batteries, latest driver package from microsoft site (intellipoint 8.01) moving closer to the receiver or farther away to the point of "low mouse signal". Today however the mouse is 2-3 feet away from the receiver and it keeps popping up saying "the mouse sigal is low would you like to start the troubleshooter?" Yes i have tried this and tried switching the usb connection to no avail. Can Anyone HELP please.... Tired of Click and Drag

The same problem here, but I have found a way to make it work (actually there are two ways LOL)

-   Remove one of the batteries.  Believe it or not, the scroll wheel works perfectly when I remove one of the battery (doesn't matter which one).  However, I don't know how long it will last since there is only one battery in operational.

OR

-  Remove the batter cover and take out the batteries.  Use a screw driver to loose the screw about 2 turns (for some reason I believe it was screwed in too tight).  Put the batteries back and you are or set.

I can not guarantee that my methods will always work, but the fact is it's working for me ever since.

    Super! I was about to throwthe mouse away but I am glad I looked it up!!!

    The screw solution works. The wheel works perfectly.

    Glad it worked for you Andrea.

    I've now been using my mouse for a week with the latest mod and I'm really happy with it, everything works just as I like it.

    Kris, as I said above, I had two specific reasons for wanting to get this mouse working:

    1. It worked with my existing wireless keyboard without me needing an additional "dongle",
    2. It was ridiculously cheap (£4.50 brand new).

    If it weren't for these two reasons I would have returned it as faulty.

    Hi Morf1961,

    I tried your trick and the scrolling seems much better now. Instead of using pieces of paper I just wrapped some sticky tape around the tab that presses onto the middle-button switch. I cut off the excess tape that exceeds the length of the tab with a pair of scissors. It's quite easy to regulate the thickness that you need to improve the scrolling, but you really don't need that much to fix the scrolling. It's working perfectly now.

    If you have to loosen a screw to make it work, ICROSOFT? Dont you have anyone testing before you sell it? I mean if everyones mouses scroll wheel is broken and fixed by a randam half-screw turn, Dont you think it should have shown up in product testing. Thats Micrsoft for ya, .... btw, I had to turn the screw a full turn loose and my scroll wheel works for the most part, it occasionally still jerks up when scrolling down or vice-versa but its doing it 90% less now.... its actually usable now.
