Windows 7 Service Pack 1: 99% then Failure Configuring Service Pack, reverting changes error

A few days ago i noticed an update for Windows 7 Service Pack 1. I tried to install it today, it worked fine right up to the moment it asks to reboot the computer. Then after rebooting it starts up as normal update procedure however as it gets to 99% on Configuring Service Pack, it fails and I am left stuck at "Failure Configuring Service Pack, reverting changes. Please do not turn off your computer" for over 10 minutes then shuts down. Then on Bootup i notice nothing has changed and the same thing repeats. Please Help

Ok guys after weeks of not replying back after i forgot bout this question, i have managed to get it working, but that was a few months after my laptop broke in which i had to reset to factory settings, which reset all the system updates done to the laptop, then when i tried installing IE 9 and Windows 7 service pack 1 they both succeeded without issues. Guess the whole problem the entire time was a faulty update

    Hi

    I have the same problem installing SP1. At first it would halt at 8% but now I get a code 8024200d.

    I have tried:

    • installed the readiness tool (several times)
    • deleted cookies, temporary files (etc)
    • tried installing from the full package and windows update
    • disabled my av
    • renamed the softwaredistribution folder and let windows create a new one

    I did get sp1 onto my other machine after installing the readiness tool but this machine doesn't want to know.

    The only thing, so far.I haven't tried is installing in safe mode - Would this work? Has anyone got any suggestions please that I could tyr?

    I'm having the same issues. It will get to 14% then reboot and starts up at 7% goes back to 14%. Repeats cycle for several hours then reverts the changes. I've tried the system update readiness tool. I've tried windows update. I've tried the standalone installer. I've tried a clean boot. Nothing works.

    In my case, it installed fine the first time, but rebooting after SP1 was installed wouldn't show the welcome screen and it just sat at a black screen. So I system restored successfully to a time just before SP1 installed, and now every time I try to install SP1, I get this same problem.

    When it finally reverts the changes and boots to desktop, it gives me an error code:

    Error: ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED(0x80070005).

    [It might be a good idea for everyone to post error codes so we can see what's going on.]

    I've attempted everything that has been suggested in this topic so far, even using subinacl to grant full perms to several registry keys (as per an official KB article).
