A few days ago i noticed an update for Windows 7 Service Pack 1. I tried to install it today, it worked fine right up to the moment it asks to reboot the computer. Then after rebooting it starts up as normal update procedure however as it gets to 99% on Configuring Service Pack, it fails and I am left stuck at "Failure Configuring Service Pack, reverting changes. Please do not turn off your computer" for over 10 minutes then shuts down. Then on Bootup i notice nothing has changed and the same thing repeats. Please Help

Ok guys after weeks of not replying back after i forgot bout this question, i have managed to get it working, but that was a few months after my laptop broke in which i had to reset to factory settings, which reset all the system updates done to the laptop, then when i tried installing IE 9 and Windows 7 service pack 1 they both succeeded without issues. Guess the whole problem the entire time was a faulty update
This makes a gruesome read, guys.
I am still in the same position and have given up unless I can read that a decent and automated (!!!) solution has been presented by MS.
Absolutely awful letting people hang like this and not providing a proper, reliable upgrade that's not messing with some many people's settings, expecting them to become Windows programmers to install an upgrade to an OS they have paid for.

this is annoying time consuming and disappointing as this is microsoft and should be easy and realiable it is obiviousley not , bad products should not be allowed to be sold
i totally agree we pay billions for total **** they should be made to pay for the repair and putting right computers thyat this **** has affectede
I found a way out of this rat hole! Force a shutdown and then press F8 to get to safe mode. Next go to Control Panel/Programs and Features/View Installed Updates. Uninstall the update called "Service Pack for Microsoft Windows" Under Microsoft Windows (should be at the very top!)
Now surprisingly after I did that the computer came back up. I then after I started doing my work I got a dialog box with the following:
Windows 7 Service Pack is now Installed
WTF?
Anyway after 8 long hours of being unproductive staring and hoping this thing would complete I am back up and running.
Edited: Update - Even though it says the service pack is installed in installed updates it is not actually installed by looking at computer properties.
