A few days ago i noticed an update for Windows 7 Service Pack 1. I tried to install it today, it worked fine right up to the moment it asks to reboot the computer. Then after rebooting it starts up as normal update procedure however as it gets to 99% on Configuring Service Pack, it fails and I am left stuck at "Failure Configuring Service Pack, reverting changes. Please do not turn off your computer" for over 10 minutes then shuts down. Then on Bootup i notice nothing has changed and the same thing repeats. Please Help

Ok guys after weeks of not replying back after i forgot bout this question, i have managed to get it working, but that was a few months after my laptop broke in which i had to reset to factory settings, which reset all the system updates done to the laptop, then when i tried installing IE 9 and Windows 7 service pack 1 they both succeeded without issues. Guess the whole problem the entire time was a faulty update
That's exactly what happened to mine. It had to Configure 3 times so I suggest that actually just wait and be patient and it will solve itself. Another suggestion before updating anything is to BACKUP all your documents; trust me its worth the time! Good luck!
They are neither more secure nor more stable. But I do use dozens of computers with various Linux variants on them (but irrelevant to this topic). I also need machines with Windows...and I would like to report that I still cannot successfully install service pack 1 on this problem machine...
Thanks. But I think we're all aware that a complete wipe off a hard drive and a fresh install of the original W7 will most likely enable a successful SP1 upgrade. The key point though is NOT having to start from scratch...
So, the quest for a solution that simply updates a system as is - or comes up with constructive measures to enable the update to run successfully - is continuing.
