Windows 7 Service Pack 1: 99% then Failure Configuring Service Pack, reverting changes error

A few days ago i noticed an update for Windows 7 Service Pack 1. I tried to install it today, it worked fine right up to the moment it asks to reboot the computer. Then after rebooting it starts up as normal update procedure however as it gets to 99% on Configuring Service Pack, it fails and I am left stuck at "Failure Configuring Service Pack, reverting changes. Please do not turn off your computer" for over 10 minutes then shuts down. Then on Bootup i notice nothing has changed and the same thing repeats. Please Help

Ok guys after weeks of not replying back after i forgot bout this question, i have managed to get it working, but that was a few months after my laptop broke in which i had to reset to factory settings, which reset all the system updates done to the laptop, then when i tried installing IE 9 and Windows 7 service pack 1 they both succeeded without issues. Guess the whole problem the entire time was a faulty update

    My machines are both Intels, one has an Atom (x86) and the other a Core 2 Duo (x64).

    As I mentioned before, both worked, but the Atom would only boot to black screen after rebooting after the install, so I had to use system restore to a time right before the SP install. Trying it after that didn't work.

    So the "it doesn't work for some AMDs" or "it doesn't work for some x64 systems" theory doesn't apply to my case. :/

    Dealing with the Atom computer:

    As an additional note, in reply what Amit said about some registry keys not having proper permissions, I used subinacl to give full access to both System and Administrators to several keys and their subkeys... so if Amit would respond and let me know which keys specifically are at fault, that would be a step for me. And yes, I was logged in as system administrator, and ran the install files as administrator.

    Oh and by the way. Make sure that when you boot ubuntu you select try alongside current operating system and not install.

    Not sure if this will help. it may...

    On another computer

    1. Download ubuntu 32bit from ubuntu's website
    2. Burn this iso image to a cd and make it bootable. (use something like Cd burner xp)

    On the broken computer

    1. Go into your bios (f12 at startup)
    2. Set the bios to boot from Cd
    3. Boot from your ubuntu cd
    4. Navigate to where windows saves the service pack update file
    5. delete this

    8.take the ubuntu cd out and reboot into windows

    Hope it works :D
