Hi Derek,
I have something very odd to report.
I hadn't used either of my Surface mice for months because of the bug. Finally, one night, since I'd left my Logitech MX Master at work, I pulled out my gray Arc Touch mouse and used it for a while with no scrolling problems. I continued using it extensively for a few days, still with no problems. Puzzled, I then began using my older black Arc Touch mouse, and I didn't have any problems with it, either, after two days.
I wondered if Microsoft had done something in the Creators Update to fix this bug. Then, I saw your post today. Are you running the Creators Update?
What has made this bug--be it hardware or software--so maddening is that not everyone seems to experience it all the time. It's not clear whether electromagnetic radiation might mediate the triggering of the bug, or if it's a software, firmware, or hardware bug, or some complex combination.
Here's another puzzling fact. Perhaps 18 months ago, I remember going for weeks on my black Arc Touch mouse without experiencing the bug. But then it showed up again, exactly as you've described. It was impossible to use it for more than ten minutes without experiencing the bug.
I assume that you're using your mouse on a Surface. Is that right? If so, can you try it on a non-Surface computer?
The Logitech mice are good. I personally prefer the simplicity, foldability, and elegance of Microsoft's design, but what good is it if it doesn't work? The MX Master does, 100% of the time.
For now, I've got my fingers crossed, and will continue to use my two Arc Touch mice until the bug returns. Unfortunately, I expect that it will, so I'm going to enjoy my luck while I can.
Please keep us posted. I'll do the same.
Thanks,
Steve
