Arc Touch Mouse Scroll stops working

Hi,

I'm using Win 7 (32 bit) with the MS arc Touch mouse software and drivers installed. Running on HP TX2 Touchsmart Tablet.

I'm facing a problem with my mouse with regards to the scroll function.

After "switching on" the mouse, there is a green led light and everything seems to work. The green LED then disappears, presumably to save battery.

However, after a short period of time, the scroll function will not work at all. There is no scroll "feedback" felt from the scroll strip either. But when I flatten the mouse and turn it back on again, everything works as per normal.

But after some time, the same problem resurfaces. Then, I have to turn the mouse off and back on again. Sometimes, the scroll function "turns" itself back on automatically. But most of the time, it just stops working altogether.

This is very irritating. It seems nobody else have encountered this issue.

Please help!!

I'm using the Surface Edition of the Arc Mouse and it was having the same issues where it would stop the scrolling until I rebooted the mouse. I ended up looking at the settings for the mouse. I didn't even realize there was a Page Up/Down option (and have obviously never used it). I tried turning that off about 10 minutes ago and my scrolling is still working great!

Before I changed that setting, my scrolling would stop after 2-3 times of using it. I don't know if the same solution will work for previous revisions of the mouse, but it's worth a shot if you haven't tried it yet.

(I just successfully scrolled again! I never thought I'd be so excited about my mouse scroll actually working.)

This seems to have fixed the problem! Thanks! I had tried changing other settings but not the Page Up/Down one. Strange that it only manifests itself on the BT version of the Arc Touch mouse; my 'standard' one never had any problem.

The team that developed the driver/app should urgently fix this or at least turn it off by default. This problem with scrolling was totally ruining an otherwise perfect device!

I found if I push firmly the front most portion of the scroll pad "wheel" it starts working again. So every time is stops I just push the front of the pad. The location that I am describing is located the furthest away from the LED, the opposite end of the scroll wheel on top of the mouse.

It’s as though a connection is not making under the scroll pad.

Just straighten the mouse out and it will turn off. Then bend it till it turns on. Then the scrolling

    will be working.

    Hi All,

We've had others post about various methods that they tried in order to fix the problem, but none have worked. They appear to be placebos.

No one really knows if there's a problem with the firmware on the mouse, the Windows mouse driver, some other part of Windows, or if it's an electrical or mechanical problem with the mouse hardware, itself. It's possible that Bluetooth is very sensitive to electromagnetic interference, and that how stable the mouse is will depend on where it's being used.

In my own experiences over the past many months with two identical Arc Touch Surface Edition mice, I've found that for whatever reason, the problem appears less often than it used to (multiple times per day, sometimes every few minutes), but it still occurs.

The biggest problem with this remains that Microsoft hasn't acknowledged that there is a problem, and it's not clear who the right person to contact is. Perhaps even within Microsoft, the mouse hardware people blame the software people, the software people blame the mouse hardware people or the manufacturing facility, and no one is saying anything publicly to customers who paid a premium for an unusual mouse design.

I'm still using my two mice with my two Surfii (thanks to the Redditer for coining that plural :) ), and the mice work better than they used to but not as well as they should. We shouldn't have to close and open a mouse that we paid a lot of money for multiple times per day just to be able to scroll.

For what it's worth, here's another observation about scrolling. Just a few seconds before scrolling is about to fail, I notice that it gets harder and harder to scroll. It doesn't stop immediately, as if a signal had been lost. It just gets harder. I try to scroll more, yet I don't manage to scroll as much as before despite my increased effort. And then, scrolling stops altogether until I close and open the mouse again.

    Has anyone else observed this?

    Thanks,

    Steve

Yes, it's exactly how it happens.
