Arc Touch Mouse Scroll stops working

Yep, don't you wish you read the reviews :). I sent it back and did not bother to try another as if they have not fixed it after 4 years they are unlikely to bother now.

I have the same problem...just bought it today...if it continues I will return as you suggest. Thanks for posting...shame MS couldn't be more helpful!! :/

Seriously? I mean the mouse would be brilliant if it wasn't for the freaking scroll wheel messing up but Linux??? Linux does not and never has had a future beyond data centres. Apple and Android are merely based on different kernels in the same way Win7 and Win8 are based on different kernals. Microsoft hasn't has a brighter future in the past 14 years as they do now. Linux is dead and Android will start to fall in the next couple years for 2 reasons - 1) lack of ecosystem - something Apple and MS have very solidly and 2) consumer computing is more and more just a commodity thing - which means when someone gets their PC home they want to turn it on log in and start working and that is what Linux lacks. With Win8.1 there is no maintenance, no messing around with stuff behind the scenes - it maintains itself in the back ground and is much more straight forward for what probably 90% of people want at home, so enjoy being part of the 1% who uses Linux on a PC and I'll stay enjoying things on the 91% of the market side of things.

Oh and without 'overpriced' stuff the kids of tomorrow will have next to no work in IT so I hope they enjoy the unemployment line.

First off let me apologize for my visions reaching this post about a mouse. Microsoft has taken something that people have become dependent on and meshed all of its products together pretty darn well to make it all work. They are far from useless, and to some degree I do have some respect for what they turned Windows into (not the fact that they stole it, but I'll stay on point). I believe Microsoft is a well oiled machine, but I also believe its old stuff now. Just look around you at all of the devices, software, and OSes people use now a days. There are definitely more options than there was in the past. 

IT won't go anywhere, I am actually a network admin and I understand how important working workstations are, so again, Microsoft has its place. I can also tell you that most IT stuff I take care of isn't because of Microsoft. It's usually troubleshooting many other items, such as networking, third-party software, and working with vendors.

A lot of people already know how to fix basic desktop problems, kids grew up on PC's today. Where IT jobs will thrive is in everything but desktop. Development is real hot right now, networking will always be around, and support for all of the third-party business applications that are hitting the market will always employ IT people.

So let me first say that I wasn't implying that in a year everyone will use Ubuntu. What I was saying is Microsoft is not the end all be all anymore. There are lots of options. I mean you can do spreadsheets, presentation, and word processing from your phone and tablet now a days. Why do you think Microsoft is diving into tiles and using them and touch devices like phones and tablets? They want to integrate that style into desktop so its all seemless, the thing is Apple and Google are currently dominating that market. They pushed Blackberry right out the door and Blackberry was the mobile business giant. They did it they did it backwards, hit consumers, then brought business functionality to it. Microsoft isn't as big a player in the mobile world. They have even shifted. I love XBox (I never got the One yet, but still I had the first two), and I still use Windows for a lot of applications I need at work, and for gaming at home. Most of my work is actually done by phone today. 

So is Microsoft horrible for todays applications? Nope. Could they become obsolete? Absolutely. And that is why technology will continue to thrive, people blow up, they disappear and new start companies have a shot at the cup.

I believe is actually far simpler. I have spent 25yrs with these various large corp's and in general very few people actually make a difference, the rest are there to collect a salary and slowly devolve into thinking that there is nothing they can do. They also tend to take the view that this corporation is so huuuuuuuuge that it could not possibly fail. My comment above is that they always seem shocked when they do.

One such huge operation was Rover Cars. They knocked out cr@p for 30 years slowly building a reputation for cars that looked awful, that were based on 20 year old technology and spent most of their time in the local garage. When they finally announced the business had gone under the work-force stood outside in shock and explained how it was the mgmts fault. It isn't, the mgmt were just as lethargic as they were, no better no worse.

The good news is however that this is what makes our Tech start-ups viable. When you put a small bunch of people together whose only aim to succeed there is just no room for salary cruisers. Now whilst I am certainly no industry guru or management consultant I have seen many of these once great corporations slowly destroy themselves through apathy. There are still those with the view "we're just too big" and for them I give you DEC, Compaq, Nokia (Phones),  Palm and Blackberry. All of this because they fill themselves with apathy :). Make way for the new kids MS, your on your way downhill.

I am floored that no one from MS seems to give a flying f#ck that they have a product out there with a well documented case of not working.

My question is do you think the staff who respond to these threads just sit there and go "Oh yeah, there goes another complaint about the mouse....." and then just choose to ignore it?

Did I mention that I am floored by their lack of response?
