Arc Touch Mouse Scroll stops working

Hi,

I'm using Win 7 (32 bit) with the MS arc Touch mouse software and drivers installed. Running on HP TX2 Touchsmart Tablet.

I'm facing a problem with my mouse with regards to the scroll function.

After "switching on" the mouse, there is a green led light and everything seems to work. The green LED then disappears, presumably to save battery.

However, after a short period of time, the scroll function will not work at all. There is no scroll "feedback" felt from the scroll strip either. But when I flatten the mouse and turn it back on again, everything works as per normal.

But after some time, the same problem resurfaces. Then, I have to turn the mouse off and back on again. Sometimes, the scroll function "turns" itself back on automatically. But most of the time, it just stops working altogether.

This is very irritating. It seems nobody else have encountered this issue.

Please help!!

    Hi Don,

Do you mean the "Arc Touch Bluetooth Mouse" app on the Microsoft Store? I've had that installed for months, and it has made no difference whatsoever.

Microsoft sent me a brand-new Arc Touch mouse, and unfortunately, it behaves exactly the same way as the original. At least their customer service department is trying, but the mouse's hardware design is flawed.

Unfortunately, the only real solution is to buy a Logitech t630: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/ultrathin-touch-mouse-t630.

If you don't mind a mouse that can't scroll, though, then the Arc Touch is perfect. :)

I have a surface pro and bought the arc mouse to go with it.  Had the same issues everyone else is describing.  What I found is that the Microsoft Store as the driver and settings app for the mouse, even though it will connect right out of the box, until you install that app, you'll have issues.  Mine seems to be perfect now that I have that app installed.

What worked for me was the post that said to push the middle scroll button on the top of the mouse.  When I pressed that button it turn the scroll back on.

I too had one whose scrolling was constantly on-and-off right out of the box. The behaviour could sometimes be rectified only by pushing on the casing in certain places (around the bulged front under the buttons).

Having taken it apart to have a look, it's clear to me that this problem (which is evidently rife amongst arc touch users) is a hardware one; the scroll pad plugs into the circuit board through a thin ribbon cable. For me, the ribbon cable-to-plug itself was the source of the problems; it's simply a very bad plug connection, and easily loses connection in places with the smallest change in tension on the ribbon cable. The cable itself is really just sort of bundled in there, so it's unsurprising that the connection is constantly dodgy with all the casing flex that happens in normal use of the mouse.

Manually fixing the problem is not particularly easy, as getting a better contact with the cable is more a case of fiddling around with the plug, and is just as likely to make it worse as it is better. Mine is currently working after doing just this, but I'm not sure for how long, and it certainly doesn't feel like a robust solution to the problem. In addition, the circuit board itself is badly designed, with a little dimple or led just in front of the plug connection, naturally forcing the ribbon cable to take a zig-zag just beyond the connection.

I found a webpage online where someone has done a teardown and you can see the offending plug towards the bottom of the second pictureand in the third picture.

So my impression: badly designed, badly manufactured, and not soluble through soft-or-firmware. Really not good enough for such an expensive product.

I've found that if I power up my Bluetooth Arc Mouse BEFORE my machine, I can get odd behavior, including just having it not be recognized by the machine.  This might also apply to coming out of sleep.

Just now, my scroll was not working, so I powered down the mouse (by flattening) and then powered it back up.  All is working again.

Seem like a connection/sync issue between the driver on the machine and the firmware in the mouse.  In any case, I seem to have more success powering up the mouse last.

Maybe a similar issue for those on this thread?
