Arc Touch Mouse Scroll stops working

Hi,

I'm using Win 7 (32 bit) with the MS arc Touch mouse software and drivers installed. Running on HP TX2 Touchsmart Tablet.

I'm facing a problem with my mouse with regards to the scroll function.

After "switching on" the mouse, there is a green led light and everything seems to work. The green LED then disappears, presumably to save battery.

However, after a short period of time, the scroll function will not work at all. There is no scroll "feedback" felt from the scroll strip either. But when I flatten the mouse and turn it back on again, everything works as per normal.

But after some time, the same problem resurfaces. Then, I have to turn the mouse off and back on again. Sometimes, the scroll function "turns" itself back on automatically. But most of the time, it just stops working altogether.

This is very irritating. It seems nobody else have encountered this issue.

Please help!!

Take the battery out and put it back in.  It worked for my one with the same problem.

    Hi Einar and recruit2,

Since all three of us (and probably many thousands of others) are experiencing a (relatively) "slow slide" into scrolling failure (lasting a few seconds) rather than a full stop (instantaneous failure), that suggests that the manufacturing process is consistent. If there's a hardware flaw with the mice stemming either from the design of the hardware or the manufacturing process, then it's consistent for all of us. This is good, because it means that it should in principle be reproducible by Microsoft.

If it were an electromechanical problem with some of the mice, then we would expect some degree of variability with regard to how scrolling fails. That all three of us report the same type of failure is suspicious. If it were a problem with electromagnetic interference, I'd think that our experiences with scrolling failure would be different.

I really wonder why there aren't more public complaints about the problem.

recruit2, Microsoft sent me a free second mouse, too, but it still had the same problem. I'm puzzled as to why it happens less frequently for me now than it used to, but it still does happen.

I'm going to try to find the right person to contact at Microsoft so that we can at least know that Microsoft is truly aware of this problem.

    Thanks,

    Steve

Yep exactly what happens for me as well. It slows down gradually and becomes worse, then stops scrolling suddenly.

PS - Microsoft were kind enough to send me a brand new replacement mouse.

But after a few days, even the brand new mouse suffers from this issue.

Latest Win 10 drivers latest everything.

It 100% has to be a design fault built into the hardware that has been very difficult for them to debug.

For what it's worth, here's another observation about scrolling. Just a few seconds before scrolling is about to fail, I notice that it gets harder and harder to scroll. It doesn't stop immediately, as if a signal had been lost. It just gets harder. I try to scroll more, yet I don't manage to scroll as much as before despite my increased effort. And then, scrolling stops altogether until I close and open the mouse again.

    Has anyone else observed this?

    Thanks,

    Steve

Yes, it's exactly how it happens.

    Hi All,

We've had others post about various methods that they tried in order to fix the problem, but none have worked. They appear to be placebos.

No one really knows if there's a problem with the firmware on the mouse, the Windows mouse driver, some other part of Windows, or if it's an electrical or mechanical problem with the mouse hardware, itself. It's possible that Bluetooth is very sensitive to electromagnetic interference, and that how stable the mouse is will depend on where it's being used.

In my own experiences over the past many months with two identical Arc Touch Surface Edition mice, I've found that for whatever reason, the problem appears less often than it used to (multiple times per day, sometimes every few minutes), but it still occurs.

The biggest problem with this remains that Microsoft hasn't acknowledged that there is a problem, and it's not clear who the right person to contact is. Perhaps even within Microsoft, the mouse hardware people blame the software people, the software people blame the mouse hardware people or the manufacturing facility, and no one is saying anything publicly to customers who paid a premium for an unusual mouse design.

I'm still using my two mice with my two Surfii (thanks to the Redditer for coining that plural :) ), and the mice work better than they used to but not as well as they should. We shouldn't have to close and open a mouse that we paid a lot of money for multiple times per day just to be able to scroll.
