network icon says "no internet access" but i am connected

Hey guys,

so I'm having a bit of an issue. I'm running a fresh install of win7 for over a week without any problems. Yesterday, for no apparent reason (ie. no updates, no modifications, no new software install...really NOTHING) my network access icon on the bottom right taskbar has a yellow triangle over it and says i have "no internet access" even though i clearly have internet.

I probably wouldnt be worried too much if it was just a wrong icon, but the problem is, software that check for updates and checks to see if im online keeps saying im offline and can only work in offline mode.

This is causing a serious issue.

Any1 have any clues how to fix this?

I run Kasp Antivir 2010 and thats about it. No other wierd or free software...no extra firewalls nothing. I just dont get how it can just happen from 1 day to the other.

Oh and the whole win7 "Troubleshoot" didnt detect any problems.

cheers.

M.

Hi,

If the issue persists then, create a Windows user account and check if this issue occurs with the new user account.

Refer the link to create a new user account.

To fix the corrupted profile follow the steps mentioned in the following article.

@Non Nerd :  Maybe it is a DELL problem (but only because they happen to be the only vendor of the currently suspected item). We can't be sure yet, but they agree enough to send me some new hardware - an "E-Port+" Docking Station. This problem appears to be from more from one cause based on the posts here and elsewhere, so your mileage may vary.

After some detailed testing I determined that in this case the laptop dock may be at fault. After resetting the "Active Probing" registry setting and restarting the laptop while NOT in the docking station, you can use it and shutdown or restart (repeatedly) without the problem reappearing PROVIDED you do not have it in the docking station. This was done with wireless (where the problem only appeared when in the troubleshooting process and hasn't reappeared again) on and off, with and without the Ethernet cable directly attached to the laptop connector, and the power cord connected or not connected directly to the laptop.

HOWEVER, if you place the laptop in the docking station and shutdown and power on, or restart just once, the problem reappears. The docking station connections are made using the same cables as those used when direct connected.

Since the "docking station" is merely a "pass-thru" for connections according to Dell, the problem in this case may be because there is either a fault in the dock, the dock connector or the laptop hardware.

I have another idea that may have to be explored: In this case the user has 2 displayport or HDMI ( can't remember which right now ) connected monitors attached to the dock. Of the three units of this model I have in use this is the only one with that config. (The other two systems "seldom" and never have this problem, respectively.)

    I'll keep you posted.

So here's what worked for me and my new Dell - MS Updates nor Dell Updates downloaded the correct NIC driver so I went to Intel site and downloaded their driver update tool - Scanned several times and updated everything it needed (note that for some reason it wants to keep installing the wireless driver) NIC display correctly now.

For some reason Dell doesn't have the same drivers that Intel has.....Who knows.
