network icon says "no internet access" but i am connected

Hey guys,

so I'm having a bit of an issue. I'm running a fresh install of win7 for over a week without any problems. Yesterday, for no apparent reason (ie. no updates, no modifications, no new software install...really NOTHING) my network access icon on the bottom right taskbar has a yellow triangle over it and says i have "no internet access" even though i clearly have internet.

I probably wouldnt be worried too much if it was just a wrong icon, but the problem is, software that check for updates and checks to see if im online keeps saying im offline and can only work in offline mode.

This is causing a serious issue.

Any1 have any clues how to fix this?

I run Kasp Antivir 2010 and thats about it. No other wierd or free software...no extra firewalls nothing. I just dont get how it can just happen from 1 day to the other.

Oh and the whole win7 "Troubleshoot" didnt detect any problems.

cheers.

M.

Hi,

If the issue persists then, create a Windows user account and check if this issue occurs with the new user account.

Refer the link to create a new user account.

To fix the corrupted profile follow the steps mentioned in the following article.

‘Fix a corrupted user profile’

UPDATE: It's BAAAACCKK! The problem reappeared, and Dell Support connected and changed the "Enable Active Probing" registry setting and it appeared to fix it. That is until we shutdown and powered on again. The value had been reset to 0 in the key and this time changing it did nothing. We got the same "triangle" and condition on the wireless connection as well.  SFC /scannow ran as well but did not resolve the issue this time. In addition it reported that some files could not be repaired but I looked at the log and cannot determine which files and how to repair or replace them.

I am only having this issue with two Dell Latitude E5430 laptops. They have identical configurations and both use an E-Port dock. The NIC's are both Intel. There is Dell bloatware installed for several purposes including wireless control and "security" as well as the Intel apps for Pro Set and a dashboard...

Dell wants me to wipe the drive and reinstall OS and all apps, checking function at each step, but that's a big step.

I am going to use a new drive and put the Dell image on it instead of destroying the existing drive - it's hours of work to reload everything our users have on their systems, not to mention all the Windows updates so I don't want to wipe the drive if it isn't the fix. I will rebuild and check function along the way and if it fixes it the user will have an SSD instead of a spinner when it's all done.

What a pain in the neck. Only lower.

I had this on three nearly identical Dell laptops (and only on those 3) and in each case the fixes listed here provided only temporary relief, if any at all.

Finally, after 2 hours on the phone with Dell Pro Support (Thank you Dirk!) we ran sfc /scannow and after it repaired some issues (but not always all issues it found), we rebooted and it was repaired. Just something else to try. Be aware that in one of the three cases the sfc results said some things were not repaired but this issue was solved anyway. After several restarts and same and different user logins the problem as not returned.

I know it may not solve everyones issue like this, but maybe it will help some.

    Good Luck!
