Ever since upgrading to Windows 7, we have had a problem with people inadvertently moving folders by dragging and dropping when meaning to double click. Is there a way to turn on a confirmation prompt ("are you sure you want to...") when dragging and dropping files/folders? It seems that previous versions of Windows had this prompt, but it has since been removed. This is happening in our office on at least a weekly basis, sometimes daily, and we have to spend time searching for the moved folder. If MS is unable to help, is there software that we can purchase to accomplish this?

Windows 7 made no changes: there has never been a confirmation prompt like you describe.
One workaround is to increase the distance you must move the pointer before it triggers a drag. Under the following registry key, you'll see DragHeight and DragWidth, which define the number of pixels the mouse must move before the drag is initiated:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT\USER\Control Panel\Desktop
When I was truly having this problem all the time, I thought it was a hardware problem. I did sort of compensate for it by careful watching of all mouse movements and if even the slightest doubt of something being unintentionally moved, I went to edit and if something was moved, there was always the "undo move" command. This saved critical files many times.
Don't expect any help any time soon. It's 2 years later and that problem still plagues Windows 7. Dell was unaware of the problem and actually replaced three notebooks with Win 7 Pro until finally offering my money back. I now am using Win 7 Pro on a Lenovo and have the same problems with files and folders being moved unintentionally. This can cause major headaches and ultimately cause Windows not to work. I was going to post a question about why I have 2 desktops showing in explorer in my account. Having not found an appropriate place to post this, I'm going to work on the basis that this is the likely cause. It's too bad that even computer makers like Dell are not told of an intrinsic problem and end up exchanging and returning computers for OS problems only.
This is perhaps the most useless "answer" I've seen on here.
I fixed this now by installing Teracopy. That gives a prompt asking if I want to use Teracopy or Explorer to copy/move the files, so I can just click Cancel if I accidentally dragged something and didn't actually mean to copy/move anything.
