NONE of us here are paid for what we do - we are all (with very few exceptions) volunteers, who like to put back into the community some of what we got out of it.

Anyway thanks for explaining the way this Windows Answers system works--this is the first time ever I had to come here to try resolve an inexplicable VISTA  problem ie that the Vista I have been using for years suddenly becomes NOT GENUINE . I  thought MSFT had a moderator giving advice on what I should do. I was unaware it was unpaid volunteers that were giving advice free of charge.Noel D Paton has been the most frequent responder so Noel are you from MSFT or just another Vista user? I ask what has Microsoft to say about the way they expect users of their software to try resolve problems?Let us hear from MSFT for a change before supporters of their software make the switch.

Simple--confusion reigns when we do not know who a message is in reply too!

Besides I still wish to know whether Noel D Paton is a volunteer or a rep of MSFT since he has been the most helpul in this over 2 week long saga involving genuine VISTA metamorphosing into a "NOT GENUINE" version If it was due to anti virus software then what has MSFT done to get the known software manufacturers  who cause the problem to fix it?

I have used Win 3.0 3.1 XP and the problem prone VISTA! I will give WIN 7 a miss

PLEASE- this thread has got way too long and complex. I don't know about you, but I no longer know where we are in the process.

Can you respond to the other thread you started in the MS forums, and we'll work on the problem there - and I'll ask for a moderator to lock this one. to reduce the confusion levels.

If your current problem is that you cannot actually even boot the machine to normal mode - can you boot to Safe Mode? - it may be best for you to start a new thread here in the Answers forums
