After using it for 4 years yesterday I started to get message on screen "Windows Vista Build 6002 This copy of Windows is not genuine "
At the same time my desktop screen background is blacked out. My computer is an Acer Aspire L3600 on which Windows Vista was installed by the manufacturer. The computer was bought in January 2008 and since then has been operating satisfactorily until yesterday.
I can still use the computer and although it has the black screen the icons are still there. However this and the reminders about validating my Product Key are irritating to say the least. When I sign in with my product key I am told it is invalid for activation.
I have tried restoring to no avail. As the computer has been operating OK for 4 years, as it gets windows updates regularly, as the product key is still clearly marked on it, as it was purchased with windows Vista installed by a reputable manufacturer,Acer,
as the computer was purchased from a major UK distributor, PC World, I find it inconceivable that my Windows Vista is not genuine and do not see why I have to buy a product key which is what I am being told to do to solve this problem. Every time I look on
the Microsoft site for the price of the product key I am exhorted to buy Windows 7 and having gone round in circles cannot find a product key for sale. Is this problem planted by Microsoft to force us to upgrade to Windows 7?.
I have run the Windows Diagnostic Tool but cannot copy it except manually.
The MGA diagnostic tool's verdict is:

Your guidance would be appreciated and advice as to whether Window Vista will self-destruct if I take no action to resolve this problem.
Finally, I have Norton Internet Security 2011 installed.
