Ah! - i KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS! You're using Chrome!?

You need to be using Internet Explorer to be able to do this.

Either open IE, or if you don't have access because you're in reduced functionality mode, boot to Safe Mode and change the Default Browser there to IE then reboot to Normal Mode.

I went to IE found cmd,exe went thru all the steps and every one was "successful" then closed laptop twice and then got message to reactivate but every time I got message saying my Vista product code was invalid-

I also tried to test whether my Vista was genuine but saw two green circles and message validation was in progress and not to change the tab--for 15 minutes the circles kept turning and when I put the cursor on them was told PLEASE WAIT

Which Key were you entering when asked? you should be using the one on your COA sticker, and then activating by phone, rather than over the internet.

There's no point in trying to validate until the system is activated.

After using Windows Vista for years in my Dell Inspiron1420 laptop  I now get message on screen

I am then told

This copy of Windows is not activated.Click here to activate Windows now

Product ID  89578-OEM-7332157-00204   Change Product Key

when I do that I am told it is INVALID

Dell confirm they do not preload fake windows software.

What can I do?

After I do the MGA D and click COPY where does the copy go? I am lost at this stage--I have to post a copy somewhere  but what I do not follow is why do i click copy if it does not copy it to where the report goes.Pl help!

The copy is put into your clipboard and can be pasted anywhere you like - such as your response to this post :)

It can also be pasted into an open notepad window so that you can review it before posting.

It does not appear in clipboard nor can I do a cut and paste of the report..how can I get the system to copy the report to Notepad instead?
