Received error 0x8007000e trying to install Windows 7 SP1 x86.

Hi all,

I just ran Windows Update and it was able to install everything except Windows 7 SP1.  I tried it again and it failed.  So the third time, I downloaded the Service Pack from the Microsoft downloads section and tried to run it, but it failed again.  This time, I got an error: ERROR_OUTOFMEMORY(0x8007000e).  Not enough storage is available to complete this operation.

Funny thing, I have 3 GB of RAM installed and 900 GB of free disk space so I'm at a loss as to what type of memory it is out of.  Running Task Manager, I have about 2 GB of RAM free.  Do I need to terminate more background applications and services to free up more RAM?

Thanks for any help.

============

I couldn't find this earlier post so I created another one with more details.  Please look under the title "Trouble installing Windows 7 SP1 x86 error 0x8007000e"

Thanks.

    I liked your reply. Sometimes it seems everyone reverts back to the old Win3.1 ploy of reinstall windows...As if we are just not that bright to be allowed to own a PC. Oh well........

    @Father Goose & anyone else with a similar problem: To avoid confusion, please begin your own, new thread about YOUR specific problem and computer. State your current IE version and full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; WinXP 64-bit SP2; Vista SP2; Vista 64-bit SP2; Win7; Win7 SP1; Win7 64-bit; Win7 64-bit SP1) in your first post. Thank you.

    Well, I uninstalled all 34 language packs (if I counted right), that was 6.7 GB and took an hour and 45 minutes. I then tried to install service pack 1, and right at the end of installation, it showed fail with this error again. GRR. So, I then installed this new System Update Readiness Tool the Microsoft tech people had told me to get (and they were trying to help a bit, but didn't seem to quickly know about this language pack problem), and I restarted the computer.

    Upon coming back, I had new updates available, and in my system properties showed "Service Pack 1" at the top. I am not sure if thus this did install correctly but showed an error or if it installed partially but still something is not right. I'm pretty confused. And by the way, the update readiness showed no errors.

    I installed the 16 updates, but the new time zone update still continues to fail.

    It would be nice to know how to get the service pack 1 installation to give a positive successful installation notification. At least for me, the uninstalling of the language packs gave the same result, even though service pack 1 seems to be installed now. (it shows on my list of installed updates also, but not in my update history)

    Pa Bear, are you saying we should uninstall only the update KB2534366 if we have all those language packs (like I do) and then this service pack 1 installation will work successfully?...

    No, I did not say or suggest that.

    [But I will suggest uninstalling any/all language packs before you attempt to install SP1 again.]
