Lifecam Studio stopped working after firmware upgrade?!?

Hi All.

I bought a new LifecamStudio 2 days ago. I installed the camera, following the instructions of course. In the end of the installation, I could se my self in the Lifecam software window, so far no problems, the camera worked. Suddenly a popup message appeared, telling me that the firmware of the camera needed to be upgraded, so I pressed OK. The firmware upgrade started but was shortly aborted with an errormessage, saying the upgrade was not succesfull. I tryed to reinstall  the firmware, but now it tells me hat I already have the most recent firmware installed. So the nproblem is now that, when I instert my camera into the USB port windows finds the camera, but as soon as I start any program the uses the camera it goes from a Lifecam Icon (in the hardware manager that is) to a unknown unit. The Lifecam studio software tells me that no camera is installed. I have installed the camera on other computers without any luck.

/Stefan

Fixed it :)

In device manager underneath imaging devices I saw "Webcam" -- before the botched fw update it said "Microsoft LifeCam Studio" and had a diff driver.  I rolled back the driver (or if that doesn't work you can force it to use the one inside program files \ lifecam) then re-installed lifecam -- my cam now works.  Now -- what's the deal with this update utility and why's it changing what driver the camera uses?

    Hello all,

For those of you posting about your LifeCam failing after applying a firmware update, let me apologize for the experience.  This firmware update may have failed if the LifeCam was attached to the PC through a USB Hub device when the firmware update was attempted.  If this was the cause for your issue, you would have seen the following message when installing the update:

“The update failed. DO NOT unplug your webcam. Verify that your webcam’s USB plug is firmly seated in the USB port on your computer, and try again.”

For customers that have a LifeCam that no longer works after a firmware update, we ask that you contact the Microsoft Supplemental Parts team at the contact numbers below:

    United States: (800) 360-7561, Monday through Friday, 5:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Pacific Time.

    Canada: (800) 933-4750, Monday through Friday, 5:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Pacific Time.

TTY customers: Contact Microsoft at (800) 718-1599, Monday through Friday, 5:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Pacific Time.

Better yet - someone should tweet Bill Gates and bring the issue of poor customer service and product support for this item.

****...if he doesn't care, what does that tell you about Microsoft. Personally, after the 6+ months of BS I was put through by Microsoft personell and still not remedied, I'm saving my $$ and buying a Mac.

I just got reamed as well with the Firmware update and my lifecam is now useless.

Microsoft STILL has the firmware update available for download, I gess this is how they try to make people buy a newer product from them.

Judging from all the posts here and experiences everyone had with Microsofts "customer service" I will put in my complaint, and by a logitech. This is definitely the last time I buy anything from Microsoft and find it absurd what they have done.

I am going to post to all my youtube channels and blog about this, and I suggest everyone else does the same. Microsoft should not be allowed to get away with this and I am not about to just let that slide.
