If your computer is having problems finding and installing operating system updates, try using a Windows Update troubleshooter to fix the problem

Open the Windows Update troubleshooter by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under System and Security, click Fix problems with Windows Update.

    It didn't help for me.

    Using Win 7 Ultimate 64b

    When I try to run windows update it says the service is off (and it isn't I checked in services for windows update and it is not off)

    It says I need to restart the computer but nothing changes when I restart and it gives me the same problem again.

    When I tried to run dot net 4 update separately, it gave me the error code:

    HRESULT 0x8000222

    I tried to run the diagnostic tools for windows update:

    MicrosoftFixit.wu.LB.37324540610249935.1.1.Run.exe  

    It didn't help so I tried:

    WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab

    but nothing changed...

    I had the same problem and fianally found a solution, check if it works for you tooSolve HRESULT: 0xc8000222 when installing NFW41/ Start. Run. Type "cmd"2/ Type "net stop WuAuServ" ( stop Windows Update). Then close3/ Start. Run. Type "%windir%" 4/ Find and Rename folder "SoftwareDistribution" ---> "SDold".5/ Do step 1/ again6/ Type "net start WuAuServ" ( restart Windows Update).7/ Install NFW4 again.
