Unable to "get media content" from text messages.

When someone sends me a text message with photos, etc., I receive only the message "get media content now." When I tap on that, it says "getting media content," but nothing happens. I can do this a dozen times- still the same cycle. Any suggestions?

There are some good suggestions on here, but I'll tell you what just worked for me.  I have a Windows Phone HTC 7.  Was getting the media content message and realized it was only happening when my phone was using my home WIFI connection.  When I turned it off under the settings icon on the phone the messages with pictures (also extra long messages from people with certain phone carriers) came through just fine.  Hope this helps someone.

Hi,

Text messages that have a picture attached are also called MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) messages. I would check if you have MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) enabled by your mobile operator.

Also there might be a problem with the MMS configuration on your device (there is no UI for end user to check) - what device are you using in what network? Is it open-market or branded device?

Also you need to have proper configuration for MMS service in your phone, see this thread about the possible issue with MMS configuration on branded phones:

    Having the same problem...getting nowhere with support. Feel your pain and am regretting my decision to purchase another Windows phone.

    It seems like the issue of "Getting Media Content" is a problem for me as well. However, if I get a NEW Text message/ with a picture, I'm able to view that image but, a month or two later if I go to search for that same image it's now unavailable. The  message "Getting Media Content" now re-appears. 

    What is actually happening to cause this to re-appear once you have viewed the picture? What do you suggest I do?  I have tried contacting your Support team and all they seem to know how to do is switch me over to another department. Constantly passing the buck to someone else. Your customer service department needs a course on how to HELP their customer especially with all the technology that's out there.  I'm beginning to think that I also made a mistake purchasing this phone. Can someone with some knowledge of this situation please help me? Thank you.

    My Lumia phone also uses WiFi almost exclusively and I have the phone data turned off to conserve my limited bandwidth. Turning on the data allowed the MMS to download as it should. Thanks to MeterLongCat for helping me with the "Get media" problem.
