Unable to "get media content" from text messages.

When someone sends me a text message with photos, etc., I receive only the message "get media content now." When I tap on that, it says "getting media content," but nothing happens. I can do this a dozen times- still the same cycle. Any suggestions?

There are some good suggestions on here, but I'll tell you what just worked for me.  I have a Windows Phone HTC 7.  Was getting the media content message and realized it was only happening when my phone was using my home WIFI connection.  When I turned it off under the settings icon on the phone the messages with pictures (also extra long messages from people with certain phone carriers) came through just fine.  Hope this helps someone.

Hi,

Text messages that have a picture attached are also called MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) messages. I would check if you have MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) enabled by your mobile operator.

Also there might be a problem with the MMS configuration on your device (there is no UI for end user to check) - what device are you using in what network? Is it open-market or branded device?

Also you need to have proper configuration for MMS service in your phone, see this thread about the possible issue with MMS configuration on branded phones:

    the guy at AT&T spent a lot of time helping me, scouring technical documents. He finally found a Messaging APN, added it and it has worked perfect since (done on Sunday). 

    I assume this only works for AT&T:

    * go to Settings > Network and Wireless

      > Cellular & SIM > SIM Settings

      > scroll down to MMS APN, select Add an MMS APN

      > use NXTGENPHONE

    I am on a Lumia 650 with Windows 10, not sure if that matter but worth a try for anyone still having issues.

    I already replied on July 20, 2017 with what seemed to fix my problem on a Lumia 735 but like every other thing I've tried the problem has eventually come back. I've always been able to click on the "download link" and get the message. Turning off Wi-Fi, when at home, solves it but I really don't like doing that. Basically I just put up with it and it comes and goes without me doing anything and I can't determine any pattern. Good luck!

    exactly what is happening to me. started this week right after returning from a trip to Hawaii, so I suspect maybe going to airplane mode may have screwed up something. I've checked all settings except the "SMS center number" which says to check with carrier so may head to AT&T tomorrow.
