"Allow a device to connect" is greyed out, bluetooth

I am unable to connect any device to the laptop through bluetooth, even though I've used the feature before.

When I switch the bluetooth on and right click on the bluetooth icon - "Allow a device to connect" is greyed out.".

I'm using Windows 7, 64 bit. Any suggestions...?

HOW TO PAIR/CONNECT A BLUETOOTH SPEAKER TO LAPTOP/PC/WINDOWS 7 SOLVED....

Bought a Bletooth speaker ages ago, it is good for what it is and managed to get it paired up with all my other devices - tablet, phone but have never been able to connect it to my Sony Vaio laptop - would always pair then never be able to connect it. Here's how I got it to work..

I decided to start afresh and delete all Bluetooth devices and start again.

Make sure you have your computer Bluetooth turned on

Down in the bottom right tool bar right click on the Bluetooth icon

Click on Join a Personal Area Network

Opens a new Window in Devices and printers

Turn on your Bluetooth Speaker to discover mode

Click Add a Device

Your speaker should show up

DO NOT CLICK NEXT.....

INSTEAD A MESSAGE SHOULD POP UP FROM THE TOOLBAR SAYING A DEVICE IS ASKING TO CONNECT

CLICK THIS MESSAGE

it will then ask you to add a pairing number to connect ( add the default number if your speaker has one refer to manual)

In this case the XMI X-Mini WE does not come with one so I put in 0000

Worked!!

Paired

Now click on Start - Devices and Printers and you should see the speaker XMI X-Mini WE

Right click it and click control

Click connect......

BOOM paired and working

Dont know how or why its working but I an now listening to music via my Bluetooth Speaker.

Now I now this may not work for all but This was driving me nuts and hope it at least works for some..

Hey people.

Found out.

I logged out as personal user, then logged on as administrator.

The computer found my bluetooth device immediately. Connected and no problem.

Then logged out as admin. Logged in again as personal user. And hey hey.

No problem, connected immediately

though "allow a device to connect" is still greyd out...... but now it doesn't make any difference. Got the pc to stream to A2DP device.

I want to know the troubleshooting steps which you have already tried?

For now please try to check if the Bluetooth service and Bluetooth Supportare running and set to automatic or not and steps to check that are provided below.

1. Press Windows Key + R, type **services.msc** and press Enter.
2. Search for **Bluetooth support** service and **Bluetooth Support.**
3. Check if it is started, if not **Right click** on the service and click on

Start.

If issue persist try to Run the hardware and device troubleshooter.

It's kind of ironic & not a little disrespectful that after 2 years of people struggling to get this to work, on a MICROSOFT FORUM, the only MICROSOFT input is to tell us what to do with the forum & not address the problem in the slightest!

Can anyone blame "simple" AsharAbdullah (and surely countless others)?!

Xmnr, if I right-click on the icon, there is no "Run as administrator" option. Bluetooth installed automatically from a Bluetooth usb key (which doesn't show in Explorer).

This is the exact same issue that I have had with my Dell Latitude Laptop E6420. It worked fine out of the box and for 6 months. When it began to quit I noticed that the communications to certain devices still worked while others were partially working. Then after I uninstalled some item like a mouse or phone, the laptop could no longer find the device. I can do as you experienced where the device can find the laptop but fails after trying to pair.

Dell worked with my laptop via an internet session and could not solve it. They sent me a new internal Bluetooth module and they tried via another session. They could not solve. They suggested I buy an external USB style Bluetooth module so I did. It has the same symptoms.

Any solution yet on your problem or any others reading this? Thanks.
