Keyboard won't work on laptop

I just woke my laptop up and the keyboard didn't work, every key that i hit typed 5. So I restarted my laptop and now the keyboard won't type nothing. Any answers?

Hi James,

Who is the manufacturer of Laptop?

Are you using external keyboard?

Most of the time when you hit letters you get numbers with laptop and the workaround is to Try hit the Fn Lock key and Num Lock Key,

If your keyboard stopped working completely then you may try the steps below:

Shutdown the laptop and Remove the battery. Hold in the power button for a few seconds. This resets the motherboard. Replace the batter and startup as normal.

If non of the options work then you may with system restore asper the Link below:

    Yes, after I posted this I got in touch with Dell. There was a bit of a problem because we bought the laptop from eBay and the seller has not helped transfer ownership.

    After I explained my problem and additional ownership concern, the representative had me remove the battery and replace it, unplug the power cord and replace it and hold the start button for 15 seconds. 

    This worked and in fact, I have had to do it twice since then. It has something to do with energy spike.

    I don't know which "tool bar" you are talking about. But my daughter and I went thru several instruction, some of them very complicated (no for level of my skills), and nothing helped.

    So I have to go to the Best Buy and ask them to give me a new keyboard.

    Anyway, thank you for your help.

    My keyboard is acting up in a funny way. Whenever I type the keys, in makes a noise like it knows I'm typing but won't respond. It only works if I hold the key down for 5secs. The touch screen works fine but I can't use that forever. Any advice??
