Keyboard won't work on laptop

I just woke my laptop up and the keyboard didn't work, every key that i hit typed 5. So I restarted my laptop and now the keyboard won't type nothing. Any answers?

Hi James,

Who is the manufacturer of Laptop?

Are you using external keyboard?

Most of the time when you hit letters you get numbers with laptop and the workaround is to Try hit the Fn Lock key and Num Lock Key,

If your keyboard stopped working completely then you may try the steps below:

Shutdown the laptop and Remove the battery. Hold in the power button for a few seconds. This resets the motherboard. Replace the batter and startup as normal.

If non of the options work then you may with system restore asper the Link below:

    Thanks so much for the valuable information Syed! I "reset" my first motherboard and it worked like a charm! I must say I had my doubts that this would do the trick but I did just as said and it immediately worked!!

    If you physical keyboard not working, then useWindows On Screen Keyboard. Temporarily that's useful to you

    God Bless YOU!!!  I have terminal cancer and my laptop is so important to me when I'm stuck in bed for long periods of time.  I tried to do an email last night and only my "I" would work!!  I thought I lost my laptop as I can NOT work anymore and I'm getting worse....I checked my desk top and your suggestion fixed my laptop!!!  Thank you so MUCH!!!  IF you can PLEASE pass my fundraiser out to your co-workers, friends, family and etc. as that is how I'm paying for my medical bills to see the dr's and get px's/scans, etc.!!
