Keyboard won't work on laptop

I just woke my laptop up and the keyboard didn't work, every key that i hit typed 5. So I restarted my laptop and now the keyboard won't type nothing. Any answers?

Hi James,

Who is the manufacturer of Laptop?

Are you using external keyboard?

Most of the time when you hit letters you get numbers with laptop and the workaround is to Try hit the Fn Lock key and Num Lock Key,

If your keyboard stopped working completely then you may try the steps below:

Shutdown the laptop and Remove the battery. Hold in the power button for a few seconds. This resets the motherboard. Replace the batter and startup as normal.

If non of the options work then you may with system restore asper the Link below:

    For better assistance answer the following question.

    1. What is the make and model of the computer/Keyboard?
    2. Have you tried connecting an external keyboard to your computer?
    3. Have you made any changes to the computer prior to this issue?

    Method 1.

    Try to run hardware troubleshooter.

    Follow the link.

    Method 2.

    Try to uninstall keyboard driver and reinstall it.

    Follow these steps to uninstall the drivers:

    a. Press Windows + X keys and select Device Manager.

    b. Search for Keyboards and expand it.

    c. Right click on the keyboard drivers and select Uninstall.

    Download the drivers from the manufacturer's website and install it on your computer.

    Well I am using Dell Inspiron 1545 and right now only my z and x keys does not work as fast as they used to and I have to press them multiple times just for 1 z, or x to appear/ work I need these keys to work for a game of mine (AKA Elsword).

    Also on this laptop I have a 250 GB hard disc that I have splitted some partitions (using a bootable repartitioning tool to split it without losing any information on that partition, Also used it to resize the 14.95 GB recovery partition to 40 GB with 36 MB Reserved for OEM things) on it so that it can have 102 GB for Windows 7 Ultimate (x64), and 90 GB for Windows 8 Pro (x64).

    my Windows 7 build on here is 7601 on that the keyboard before was just fine no issues with any key it probable is the 8 part of it but idk.
