Keyboard won't work on laptop

I just woke my laptop up and the keyboard didn't work, every key that i hit typed 5. So I restarted my laptop and now the keyboard won't type nothing. Any answers?

Hi James,

Who is the manufacturer of Laptop?

Are you using external keyboard?

Most of the time when you hit letters you get numbers with laptop and the workaround is to Try hit the Fn Lock key and Num Lock Key,

If your keyboard stopped working completely then you may try the steps below:

Shutdown the laptop and Remove the battery. Hold in the power button for a few seconds. This resets the motherboard. Replace the batter and startup as normal.

If non of the options work then you may with system restore asper the Link below:

    Microsoft fault if happens in multiple platforms, this issue must be patched asap or many move to Linux.

    what if battery is INSIDE chasis not easy to remove or at all ASUS K456U, I had to reinstall windows 10, it helped but be damned if this happens again. cannot keep reinstalling.

    After hours of searching for a solution to my keyboard not working I came across this post.  Removing the battery and the AC adapter (PC was off) I held down the power button, restored the power and voila it works.  Thanks.  This was on a Dell AMD Inspiron 5555 running Win 10 Creator.
