Keyboard won't work on laptop

Who is the manufacturer of Laptop?

Are you using external keyboard?

Most of the time when you hit letters you get numbers with laptop and the workaround is to Try hit the Fn Lock key and Num Lock Key,

If your keyboard stopped working completely then you may try the steps below:

Shutdown the laptop and Remove the battery. Hold in the power button for a few seconds. This resets the motherboard. Replace the batter and startup as normal.

Yes, after I posted this I got in touch with Dell. There was a bit of a problem because we bought the laptop from eBay and the seller has not helped transfer ownership.

After I explained my problem and additional ownership concern, the representative had me remove the battery and replace it, unplug the power cord and replace it and hold the start button for 15 seconds. 

This worked and in fact, I have had to do it twice since then. It has something to do with energy spike.

I had the same problem. I recently spilt some milk on the keyboard. But I didn't know what to do so I wiped it with my sleeve. The keys were then typing different random letters. I restarted the laptop and none of them were working. I tried connecting a USB keyboard to it, and because I turned it off from the button, it asked me weather I wanted to start from safe mode. I used the arrow keys and it worked. But when it asked for my password, the keyboard just went to sleep and didn't respond!

I figured it out. Although my case was a bit different. It happened after I accidentally put my math book over the keyboard pressing several keys at once. Suddenly, none of the keys worked. Turns out, the keyboard was ignoring every key I typed because of Filter Keys(that message that pops up when you press shift five times in a row or something like that). 

To Fix it, go to Filter Keys, turn it off , Apply the new setting and everything should start to work again.
