I chose not to install this update, but did install the other 3. However, when I shut down my computer last night, I noticed updates were installing. This morning my update history shows the item was indeed installed!
I have updates scheduled to download updates but let me choose whether to install them. Incidently, this is not the first time updates have installed without my permission. Can anyone explain? Thanks
How many User Accounts are on the system ?
Did you uncheck KB976902 and Hide it or just leave it unchecked ?
I've had that happen only once before and no one could provide a logical explanation as to why the update installed. The explanation given was that I'd Approved the other updates installations and when doing so the Windows Update Agent determined that I
had Approved the one I had un checked, too. This occurred in XP SP3.
You can see where the update's installation was Approved in the WindowsUpdate.log (WU.log)-
How to read the Windowsupdate.log file
The most recent entries are at the bottom of the log. My Win 7 system is set to " Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them " so the entry from the WU.log on my system differs from the one on yours
2010-10-27 16:23:14:465 900 b7c AU Auto-approving update for download, updateId = {01EC3384-8802-49F3-BCB8-48288FE51224}.101, ForUx=1, IsOwnerUx=1, HasDeadline=0, IsMinor=0
There should be an entry in your system's WU.log that shows an Approval for the installation of KB976902.

I only unchecked the update, I did not hide it. Good catch. I was unable to locate it in the update log.
Thanks for the heads up.
