Windows 7 (KB976902) to enable future updates.

Today I saw an update on my windows 7 laptop with kb 976902.  It said that it is to allow future updates to install correctly and that after it was installed, I could not remove it.  I looked on Knowledge Base for the article about it and it comes back with no results.  I have read at some places that it is used by SP1 beta.  I do not have SP1 Beta installed on my system.

Does anybody know what this update is for?

This isn't SP1 or beta software or even malware (perplexed9, use some common sense). It's an update that readies the system for when the service pack is released. This occured with the service packs for Vista too.

However this update should not have been released without proper documentation so it wouldn't surprise me if people hold off until there are notes available.

    Most likely, seeing as Win7/Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 RC became available on the 26th, too.

    This is not malware, it is SP1 BETA. This was supposed to have been out back in July.  Since it is a beta, I would not install it.Wait until the final official release.
