The validity of this patch, has gone viral all over the web
IMHO, that is the crux of the matter here. All Microsoft had to do was to publish a KB article for this update that can not be removed and the FUD would have never occurred. As Mariner53 has posted, this drives IT departments nuts because there isNO DOCUMENTATION about it.
How hard is it to publish a KB article for an update that has been available since at least June of 2010 for Win 7 SP1 beta testers which has been subsequently pushed out by Windows Updates on October 26, 2010 for all Windows 7 systems ?
The messsage being sent by Microsoft is that it does not care to publish such information or even worse, refuses to.
That behavior is what promotes FUD about KB976902 and starts the viral web reaction.
" Just open wide and swallow " is not a logical reason to install this undocumented,
unremoveable update.
