Windows 7 (KB976902) to enable future updates.

Today I saw an update on my windows 7 laptop with kb 976902.  It said that it is to allow future updates to install correctly and that after it was installed, I could not remove it.  I looked on Knowledge Base for the article about it and it comes back with no results.  I have read at some places that it is used by SP1 beta.  I do not have SP1 Beta installed on my system.

Does anybody know what this update is for?

Thank you in advance,

This isn't SP1 or beta software or even malware (perplexed9, use some common sense). It's an update that readies the system for when the service pack is released. This occured with the service packs for Vista too.

However this update should not have been released without proper documentation so it wouldn't surprise me if people hold off until there are notes available.

*UPDATE* - Documentation has been released - http://support.microsoft.com/KB/976902

Since I posted here a while ago I receive a notice when there is a reply.

After reading this I think I need to unsubscribe from this thread.  Too much holiday cheer perhaps before going on the internet.  Don't drink and 'net.

I believe that you are having other computer issues, i have installed this update as well as service pack 1and have no issues.

The update does not install by itself,  it depends on your update settings, it could be set to automatic.

If you installed SP1 from a downloadable file (offline installer) KB976902 will be installed as a prerequisite.

CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT FOR NO CRIME

They say consent is given for "good faith" belief....GOOD FAITH...there was nothing above board about my year long and continuing attack and no MS Security even mentioned this update.

SHAME ON YOU MICROSOFT FOR MALICE OF KB976902 AND FLUFF ANTIDOTE THAT ALLOWS REINSTALL OF PRIOR UPDATES TO BRING TO KNEES AT THEIR DISCRETION AND WITHOUT ANY INTERVENTION DUE TO TIMERS AND TASKS AND FILES HIDDEN IN "CORRUPTED BITS" LIKE FONTS OR MYSTERIOUSLY APPEARING AND "CORRUPTED ICONS OR PICS OR MEDIA BITS AND EMAILS......

DON'T TREAD ON ME...i AM NOT THE ENEMY....YOU ARE!!!

I tracked it down FINALLY on Christmas morning...I had long suspected win 7.1 and made error statements but USING Visual BASICally and virtual factories, first panther sizes up the prey by running test side by side to see how much they can virtualize.

I ended up using a virtual printer to catch the virtual environment and other "lucky" guesses...led me slowly through horrible registry entanglements...

I am very disturbed by the misinformation regarding this "update".

If a rose by any other name is a rose...does an update NOT  malware if malice was its intention as opposed to the scurry to cover up the nonsense ...took three months remember...and I didn't notice until Nov 10th or that's when the last backup was clean...the backups are the first to get erased to cover tracks...Using power shut downs and combing every hive of a registry ....meticulously inspecting my faults many and most of them led to no where but ...perseverance and desperation AND LACK of ANY FEEDBACK except a :"preinfected" ISO that I thought would be me peace of mind so I didn't expect it was MS again....and again I was a fool for thinking the thin blue line includes the blue of microsoft....

All ILLEGAL and MORE criminal than any thing I've seen on the news.

Maybe in a time of WAR declared by congress but NOT peacetime and without any oversight...

Branching or redirecting data to upload for other times was the scariest to find out...imagine my pron  collection at risk!!!  Actually to thwart the issue and since my legal docs (Paralegal services I provide pro bono to civil rights victims...hence I most likely was included in this unchallengable black list or just a reoccuring virus.

What about a twin puma running side by side (winsxs) or just virtually using US B driving home the need to reign in an oppressive update.  I happened to be gifted a PC and for past six months I thought I was infected with a virus.

This is my true account, I have filed reports with CA state atty gen and DOJ...on a corruption issue and of course no concern ...because they MUST be benefitting from a program way to close to R2D2 in germany to be dismissed as paranoia..I am not paranoid.

    DON"T TREAD ON ME

    TaiFOOD...for thought...

I've been reporting this to the security knowing it was about the win 7 giveaway then like a drug dealer they people hooked had to keep ti going and then you CRIPPLE them after some time?

KB2533552 didn't cure anything it sets up the ability to start all win 7 downloads thus erasing the cure and until sp1 brand new...almost then 976902 reappears and all helP (L) substituted due to censoring.

the words I used are not codes but directories that are not explained well or if questions asked the discussion is cut off but quick....and they might change by the time I type this ..
