Today I saw an update on my windows 7 laptop with kb 976902. It said that it is to allow future updates to install correctly and that after it was installed, I could not remove it. I looked on Knowledge Base for the article about it and it comes back with no results. I have read at some places that it is used by SP1 beta. I do not have SP1 Beta installed on my system.
Does anybody know what this update is for?

This isn't SP1 or beta software or even malware (perplexed9, use some common sense). It's an update that readies the system for when the service pack is released. This occured with the service packs for Vista too.
However this update should not have been released without proper documentation so it wouldn't surprise me if people hold off until there are notes available.

No, "it's not broken here" means that I have not seen this behavior on any of my Win7 computers or my clients' Win7 computers.
This is one of the things you claim besides "update client 7.6.7600.320 does not automatically download", "diagcab files can be run on Windows Vista", "diagcab files do run and don't open" and "diagcab files offer being run as administrator".
A program called Take ownership you can download to delete the files. Find the files with windows search, see more results, search again in my computer. Then you may need to install WindowsUpdateAgent-7 and/ or Windows6.1-KB3102810 to make smooth updates. un-install Take ownership when your not using it.
No, "it's not broken here" means that I have not seen this behavior on any of my Win7 computers or my clients' Win7 computers. I'm not denying that others have encountered the behavior but I do deny that everyone running Win7 has encountered it.
