Out of Paper Error When there is Paper

My computer is giving me an error that my printer is out of paper and it is not.  It has done this with three different printers.

Disable BiDirectional on the Port tab of printer properties

    None of these suggestions work.  I have a new hp laptop.  The old one had no problems printing ever.  There is paper and no jams etc

    Windows behaves stupidly in my case too. (Or is it the printer's fault? I wouldn't be too inclined to think that it is.)

    My printer cannot detect that it was refilled with paper, it never could. It can't even detect paper levels, only if it fails to suck in a piece of paper when attempting to print.

    After getting that failure message from the printer once, windows refuses to send any more print commands to the printer. Forever. Or until the print spooler service is killed and restarted manually.

    The error message that pops up when trying to print to a previously out of paper printer only has a Cancel option. How about Retry? How about I refilled the paper tray last week?

    Windows shouldn't refuse to print just because once upon a time — two weeks ago — the printer reported that it was out of paper.

    HP OfficeJet 4200 supports bidirectional communication, so I am not going to disable it. Rather kill the uselessly always-running print spooler service manually and start it only when it's needed.

    This removed the out of printer error.

    But cannot print from other reason now.

    I have the same problem 'Out of Paper, when not'. This just happened at the same time as these two events took place.

    Is this connected with the problem?
