I know this is an old thread but recently ran into this issue and simply stopping and restarting the Print Spooler service resolved it for me.
That only solves it for a day or 2 (depending on the amount of printing being done).
I have the same issue with a Windows 2012 R2 server and a Kyocera FS-C2526MFP.
I also have some more of these "weird" printing problems with Windows 2012 R2.
Some of our HP printers go Offline for no reason and only start working again after a full restart of the server.
Used different drivers, installed them new etc.. but at best it works again for a few days before the trouble starts again.
W2012R2 is not very good with printing.

I have a server 2012 R2 back end, with the LaserJet 400 installed via WSD port. Bidirectional is already turned off, and spooler re-started on both client and server...
