Can't uninstall iTunes program due to missing itunes.msi file.

I click on itunes icon error Problem with shortcut This action is only valid for products that are curently installed. First I tried searching for the file, no luck. I tried system restore. I tried "winrar" apparantly there were no files to extract. i also tried "Ccleaner" is there anything else I can do I've been trying for 48 hours!This is the  error message upon uninstalling - the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click Ok or try again or enter an alternative path to folder containing the installation package 'itunes.msi' in the box below. I ran a search and found a file browsed the path selected open and another error message saying it isnt a valid installation package for the itunes program. try to find the itunes.msi in a folder from which you can install itunes.

Windows Installer cleanup utility is no longer available for download from Microsoft. It was found to damage other components and should not be used.

With that said, it would be best to post this issue in the Apple discussion forums for assistance.

Delete all Apple products from your computer.

Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:

  1. iTunes
  2. QuickTime
  3. Apple Software Update
  4. Apple Mobile Device Support
  5. Bonjour
  6. Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)

Then download and install the latest version of iTunes for your operating system.

    As has been stated several times, the Installer was removed ages ago. It is no longer available, at all from Microsoft. So the only way to get it is to 'trust' a 3rd party with an installation that most likely will bring with it other malware.

    As a mediator, it seems silly to me that you continue to post this remark as the itunes.msi file issue prevents this "fix" from working. The itunes.msi file is specifically the issue that causes folks (myself included) from installing or uninstalling Itunes.

    Could you be more specific as to which post is continually being posted? Using Windows Installer Cleanup Utility removes iTunes with or without itunes.msi being present. The fact that MS  no longer publishes the tool has no bearing on the installation. The file is widely available from other sources. The external sources do not install the software. They simply host the file. All websites that want to provide files to download use a file host. Most do not own the host and therefore most are "3rd party".  And, in fact, I host the file that I link to using my file host. I can assure you there is no malware involved.

     Apparently you didn't read the post just above yours where MSICU was downloaded, installed and successfully removed iTunes without the missing file.

    I guess my next question then becomes, once you install the bloody installer... where does it go or how do you access it to fix this issue?
