What is Microsoft Silverlight and why do I need it?

Can someone explain the benefits of MS Silverlight (both Pros and Cons)? Sorry to ask and I might be able to figure it out if I had time to open it up and see exactly each feature does, but just from opening the program up for the first time; I'm not sure that I need it or what it is for exactly? Thanks in advance for any insight someone can give me.

You need it if you want to go to web pages that use it. If you don't,

you don't need it.

As far as I'm concerned, you should have it, since it gives you the

ability to go to web pages you might want.

    I added this to my computer to be able to access Netflix use.

    As soon as I added it my computer as I knew it was non existent, it was horrible to say the least, I removed it and as soon as I did my computer that I loved was back and working properly...iam "SO" not computer savvy, but all I can say is if you want your computer to work properly DO NOT........AND I MEAN DO NOT ADD SILVERLIGHT it will crash your computer. As far as iam concerned they may as well call it "Silverlight virus"!!!

    ....Seems I can never get a direct answer concerning any problems I have with MSN. Their technical support is extremely hard to find and recieve an answer. As much much as MS makes, it seems to me they would much more attentive to their customer needs and problems. These "updated" pages only seem to make it more diffiicut. Too bad for them. Silverlight is just one of those issuse. PItty.

    Have to agree with you on that one.  Microsoft's free tech support is almost non-existant and really ****!  Apple on the other hand dances rings around them in the tech support arena. Didn't realize just how bad MSs was until I got an iPad and had to look up stuff. Apple went out of their way to make free tech support available and easy to navigate.
