What is Microsoft Silverlight and why do I need it?

Can someone explain the benefits of MS Silverlight (both Pros and Cons)? Sorry to ask and I might be able to figure it out if I had time to open it up and see exactly each feature does, but just from opening the program up for the first time; I'm not sure that I need it or what it is for exactly? Thanks in advance for any insight someone can give me.

You need it if you want to go to web pages that use it. If you don't,

you don't need it.

As far as I'm concerned, you should have it, since it gives you the

ability to go to web pages you might want.

Hi,

Check this site :

Microsoft SilverLight - on left - Learn Why SilverLight is right for you.

http://www.silverlight.net/

Also there are tutorials there and even its own Community and Forums.

Hope this helps.

No I have not had this problem. I was cleaning house one day deleting unnecessary programs and saw my Silverlight. It was just sitting there for a year or two and never used it. So I guess in another year I will check back with this great community to see what others say. As for me I will just leave well enough alone!

I too have the same problems with silverlight. It freezes my computer when I am trying to view in Hotmail email on occasion. I never had this before. I will delete it and probably stop using hotmail all together anyway. Seems I can never get a direct answer concerning any problems I have with MSN. Their technical support is extremely hard to find and recieve an answer. As much much as MS makes, it seems to me they would much more attentive to their customer needs and problems. These "updated" pages only seem to make it more diffiicut. Too bad for them. Silverlight is just one of those issuse. PItty.
