What is Microsoft Silverlight and why do I need it?

Can someone explain the benefits of MS Silverlight (both Pros and Cons)? Sorry to ask and I might be able to figure it out if I had time to open it up and see exactly each feature does, but just from opening the program up for the first time; I'm not sure that I need it or what it is for exactly? Thanks in advance for any insight someone can give me.

You need it if you want to go to web pages that use it. If you don't,

you don't need it.

As far as I'm concerned, you should have it, since it gives you the

ability to go to web pages you might want.

Hi,

Check this site :

Microsoft SilverLight - on left - Learn Why SilverLight is right for you.

http://www.silverlight.net/

Also there are tutorials there and even its own Community and Forums.

Hope this helps.

No benefit whatsoever that I can relate too, since silverlight impregnated this very laptop it won't shut down without having the battery removed which obviously results in a prolonged start up with it having to resume from a crash situation, any videos on any site play like I am connected with a dial-up connection (remeber those days), previously this laptop would be ready to use in under 2 seconds and shutdown in under 3 seconds in sleep mode, so silverlight has gone for the time being, maybe try it next year !!!!!

Sorry I can't put anything construstive on here, just facts as they are, and as I have read elsewhere on here, I really don't have hours/days to try and track down an actual MICROSOFT helpfull operative.....
