What is Microsoft Silverlight and why do I need it?

Can someone explain the benefits of MS Silverlight (both Pros and Cons)? Sorry to ask and I might be able to figure it out if I had time to open it up and see exactly each feature does, but just from opening the program up for the first time; I'm not sure that I need it or what it is for exactly? Thanks in advance for any insight someone can give me.

You need it if you want to go to web pages that use it. If you don't,

you don't need it.

As far as I'm concerned, you should have it, since it gives you the

ability to go to web pages you might want.

Also there are tutorials there and even its own Community and Forums.

Hope this helps.

    Hello KathyRush,

You can visit the official Silverlight website for more information on it:

http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/what-is-silverlight/default.aspx I am not Cathy Rush, but I too have been trying to find out what Silverlight is good for. It seems to be mainly for developers but that is not me, so that is as far as I ventured ****, I have no clue what a "developer" does....my imagination tells me it's something to do with program building.....

I couldn't agree more! Every time I have a problem with Microsoft they blame it on the browser  (Firefox 12.0 currently) or send me on some "wild goose" chase with one of their links. Not one time has one of their links ever solved my problem! I was told to uninstall/reinstall Silverlight to solve my current problem. Did it work? Of course not. They won't even tell you what it does! They just shove another link at you. IE8 sucks, bing sucks, Microsoft tech support sucks basically all of Microsoft sucks!
