What is Microsoft Silverlight and why do I need it?

Can someone explain the benefits of MS Silverlight (both Pros and Cons)? Sorry to ask and I might be able to figure it out if I had time to open it up and see exactly each feature does, but just from opening the program up for the first time; I'm not sure that I need it or what it is for exactly? Thanks in advance for any insight someone can give me.

You need it if you want to go to web pages that use it. If you don't,

you don't need it.

As far as I'm concerned, you should have it, since it gives you the

ability to go to web pages you might want.

Check this site :

Also there are tutorials there and even its own Community and Forums.

Hope this helps.

Ken.. I came here to try to find out what Silverlight was, also.   The answer you gave to the other person, left me still puzzled.  Could you expand your explanation, please?

    Hi,

Why not ask in the SilverLight Community and Forums where it is

supported rather than here where it is not supported?

    SilverLight

    SilverLight - FAQ

    http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/what-is-silverlight/

    SilverLight - Forums

The best answers will come from those that use and support the

    product daily.

FYI, this is simply another vague answer to a specific question. I responded to the forums and to the specific website for Silverlight.  All I can continue to state is that NO ONE has given a straight answer to what Silverlight does in a lay persons language nor have they directed myself or anyone to a website that shows any caring or compassion for users that are experiencing difficulty.  I finally resolved my Silverlight problems with MSN programs by removing it from my system totally.  This has worked rather successfully.  No operational problems and, I have experienced no difficulty with any sites on the WWW. No one in the forums could give an answer nor did they even try to explain why Silverlight constantly failed within a specific MicroSoft program.
