What is Microsoft Silverlight and why do I need it?

Can someone explain the benefits of MS Silverlight (both Pros and Cons)? Sorry to ask and I might be able to figure it out if I had time to open it up and see exactly each feature does, but just from opening the program up for the first time; I'm not sure that I need it or what it is for exactly? Thanks in advance for any insight someone can give me.

You need it if you want to go to web pages that use it. If you don't,

you don't need it.

As far as I'm concerned, you should have it, since it gives you the

ability to go to web pages you might want.

Hi,

Check this site :

Microsoft SilverLight - on left - Learn Why SilverLight is right for you.

http://www.silverlight.net/

Also there are tutorials there and even its own Community and Forums.

Hope this helps.

Look at other posts "SpiritX MS MVP" has made and you'll discover that's pretty much what he does with every question he answers. All the "Microsoft MVP's" want to do is defend Microsoft no matter how stupid Microsoft gets. Silverlight seems to be just another program Microsoft came up with for websites, but the only one I've found using it is Netflix. Most website developers aren't bothering with using Silverlight, it's another stupid idea Microsoft came up with but most websites don't want it.

He's a "Microsoft MVP", so what would you expect him to say, lol? They're going to back Microsoft no matter how ignorant they sound. I've yet to find a single site I use that needs Silverlight. It sounds to me like installing Silverlight is just a waste of drive space.

I've yet to run across a single website that uses it, so I'd say it's pretty useless. I don't have it installed, and never have run across a site yet that needed it. All it's going to do is take up space on your hard drive.
