What is Microsoft Silverlight and why do I need it?

Can someone explain the benefits of MS Silverlight (both Pros and Cons)? Sorry to ask and I might be able to figure it out if I had time to open it up and see exactly each feature does, but just from opening the program up for the first time; I'm not sure that I need it or what it is for exactly? Thanks in advance for any insight someone can give me.

You need it if you want to go to web pages that use it. If you don't,

you don't need it.

As far as I'm concerned, you should have it, since it gives you the

ability to go to web pages you might want.

Hi,

Check this site :

Microsoft SilverLight - on left - Learn Why SilverLight is right for you.

http://www.silverlight.net/

Also there are tutorials there and even its own Community and Forums.

Hope this helps.

    @Ken

    Why do you reply to his answer if you cannot answer it?  He wants to know what Silverlight is/does.  He didn;t ask whether he needs it.  Only answer questions you know the answer to, otherwise you're wasting people's time.

    no... don't do that because then all sites that use adobe wont work.  Thats what i was trying to get at with my post below.  only those sites that have switched to silverlight will accept its use...  to some it up sites like youtube and break.com use adobe flash player and are not coded the same way that silverlight is so silverlight wont work with flash (adobe flash player) and vise versa.  Hope i explained that so you could understand it.  Its pretty sad that I've never even had any courses relating to computers or computer science but I can still explain it WAAAAAAY better than "Mr. Blake," <content removed- CoC violation>
