I found sptd.sys in C:\Windows\System32\drivers folder. Should I delete it? I am a little hesitant to do so, because it is a system file. Also, no sign of BSODs ever since I reinstalled Mcafee on Monday. So sptd was the culprit behind the crashes.

Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) is apperaing in WIN 7 too. I can only use my computer in Safe Mode with Networking. I have several minidump files but how do I use them with WinDbg utility. Also how do I load and verify the symbols. Does anyone have Microsoft support 1800 number? Thanks.

2010-06-09T11:10:53+00:00 If you can't find a file named sptd.sys in the filesystem, it is unlikely you would need to do anything more.

2010-06-09T06:50:31+00:00 Oh I have also deleted the Alcohol folder in Program Files(x86) but I didnt see any sptd folder in either Program Files(x86) or Program Files. Is there anything I need to do or is sptd still lurking somewhere in the system?

I was able to delete the sptd folder that way. The computer was running fine for the last couple of days miracolously. Now I have reinstalled Mcafee to see what happens for next few days. If nothing, then we can rule out Mcafee. I wanted Alcohol because I really hate juggling physical CD/DVDs in the physical drive, so I found another free Virtual CD software and I dont think it uses sptd. So we'll see. Thanks again buddy.
