SVChost.exe - k netsvcs has crippled my machine like no malwaer ever has. From what I can tell, this has something to do with Windows Update.

Nothing else unsual is running. There is no malware involved. And all updaes are installed Except I cannot update .net. I get the following error message:

"Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86"

What can I do? I am frustrated.

Thanks for the help! I followed Joel's advise above & it SEEMS to have resolved the problem. I say SEEMS, because I have seen the problem apparently resolved, only to resume again after a few days. Updated Malwarebytes showed no infection doing a deep scan.

I will be back if proble returns.... for now, issue resolved!

Thanks for posting posting the log. Please open Highjack This and choose "Do a system scan only". Locate the following entries and place a check mark in the respective box. Click "Fix Selected". Follow through with the confirmations to delete the entry. Open, update and choose a quick scan with Malwarebytes.

Additionally, search add/remove programs to uninstall any applications associated with the above entries. After successful uninstalls, search program files to ensure all files associated with the applications were removed.

The following entry is not related to malware/spyware. If you do not recognize the application search add/remove to uninstall. Also, this app has no need to auto-start with windows. It can be disabled using  msconfig.

    O23 - Service: RGService - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\RadioGet\RGService.exe

The below entry could very well be one of your issues with the high cpu usage. While back-up monitoring often comes in handy, these applications run in the background using unnecessary processes. I recommend you disable this feature from start-up and perhaps manually run it periodically. This is especially true when major changes are made to your personal files.

Again, the below entry is safe, but has no need to start-up with windows.

    O23 - Service: SMServer - SMServer - C:\WINDOWS\system32\snmvtsvc.exe

After completion of the Malwarebytes scan, Create a new restore point. Run the system to see if the problem is resolved. If you find it is solved, delete all restore points and create a new one. post your results for future assistance.

    Thanks, Joel

The "Process Explorer" technique can potentially be used to get more information about what service in the netsvcs instance of svchost is responsible for the CPU consumption.  Once that detail in known, more specific steps can be taken to attempt to address the problem.  Another option would be to use Process Explorer to selectively stop services that are running in the netsvcs instance of svchost.  If you stop a service, and the CPU usage immediately goes down, you can focus efforts on that service and why it may be contributing to the behavior.
